Domain Name Registration Procedure

The internet primarily has two elements that interact with each other - the client and the server. The network, link, capacity, service providers, are all parameters that extend the client server relationship or either diminish the hopes associated with this affinity. Millions of internet users are binding themselves in this required relationship whenever they search any kind of search engine for any sort of material. The server becomes the search engine and the computer of the user becomes the client. The interaction of the client - server relationship is based upon a known parameter known as the IP address. All computers, servers, devises logged onto the internet have to have a IP address associated with it.

There are millions of elements in the network architecture of the interact and it becomes almost an impossible task to memorize or even store all of the IP addresses in one database and use it whenever a connection is required. In order to eliminate this issue, servers are provided unique names and the users only have to remember the particular name and become oblivious to the underlining networks that create a successful connection.

For any individual or corporations that require others to log on to their specific site, it seems only fair to allow the others to simply remember the name of the website instead of the IP address. There is a certain process associated with obtaining a domain name since there is a certain authority that monitors this functionality on the internet. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is an internationally organized, non-profit corporation that has responsibility for Internet Protocol (IP) address space allocation, Top-Level Domain name system management, and root server system management functions. There is a certain Top Level Domain (TLD) structure associated with the domain name structure. Primarily, the .edu, .com, .org, and the 244 templates for countries are a part of the TLD structure. The entirety of the TLD comes under the jurisdiction of the ICANN. The first and foremost understanding prior to moving forward with any domain name registration procedure is to identify where would the domain name structure of the new company or individual website reside in? Is it a new college, non profit financial institution or a toy shop that is requiring a domain name? The college will typically have a .edu at the end of the structure whereas the nonprofit organization will come under the banner of .org. this is really critical to understand and be noted prior to moving forward.

The ICANN has designated specific registrars that take care of the functionality per root or per segment of the domain name structure. These registrars in turn compete with each another for the customer. The complete list of all registrars is available at http://www.internic.net/origin. Each registrar is governed by processes and procedures associated by the ICANN. This makes the registration process very similar from one registrar to another. Each registrar will ask you to provide various contact and technical information that makes up the registration. After obtaining the required parameters, the registrar will store the records in its local database and also submit the technical information to a central directory known as the "registry." This registry provides other computers on the Internet the information necessary to search and reach your registered website. You will also be required to enter a registration contract with the registrar, which sets forth the terms under which your registration is accepted and will be maintained. The registration is dependent upon various parameters such as the length of the required domain and how high on the TLD is your web site required. Fee is dependent upon the TLD structure ad and the length of the requirement. After one successfully registers via any registrar, the user still requires to upload the website to the server maintaining that specific domain name. Many service providers will provide you with the stated guidelines or many of times the specific registrar can work with you to provide you with the details of the upload procedures.
